Now I understand that some people work multiple jobs, go to school, or may have kids to look after. However, take a look at your weekly schedule and what you spent your time doing. Did you spend more time recreating than you should have? It's important to slow down every now and then to enjoy life and the people who matter to us. Remember though, that in order to achieve our goals sacrifice is necessary and often times these goals will require a significant amount of time. Here are a few tips that have helped me to prioritize:
- Be efficient with your time. When I find myself sitting at the barbershop for an hour, I pull up a book on my phone and read about the subject I am trying to work on. When you spend an hour in traffic going and coming from work every day, that is 2 hours a day and at least 10 hours a week. Audiobooks are available regarding almost any topic that might interest you. Audible.com offers a subscription of $14.95 a month and first month is free with unlimited access to books covering all types of information. Knowledge is the cheapest and most underrated way to spend your money. For any goal you are trying to accomplish, informing yourself is the first step.
- Move time around. For example, going to the gym in the morning could take you 30 minutes to get your workout in. In the afternoon the same activity could take you an hour and a half because of the traffic and excess number of people lining up for the machines. Do your best not to follow the crowds, work around them.
- Lastly, and most importantly: Be careful of who you spend your time with. While it is important to spend time with loved ones, some friends or family might soak up a lot more of your time than you'd like. It's never polite to kick people out - so try to visit them as opposed to having them come over. It sounds harsh but it's the reality. Don't overstay your welcome and don't let others do the same. Some people may have planned to stay at the party after the game was finished, doesn't mean you have to stay over the entire day as well.
