"The album title is the address of his childhood home in Fayetteville, N.C. The house was foreclosed on when Cole was still a youngster, but he recently reclaimed it in his first property purchase. Fittingly, that’s where he threw the first listening party for friends and local fans before anyone else had heard it, including the label. Cole chose to forgo the standard rollout in order to have it be a more personal experience for listeners. There was no lead single or early promo, but the absence of hype seems to have made yesterday’s release that much more impactful."
Personally, my favorite J. Cole release is his first major mixtape, which is free, "The Warm Up" (Get it here). This latest album has a very personal feel to it, and a lot more singing than I would have liked. However, the album features no other artists or singers so all the singing is left to Cole. The lyrical content is honest, heartfelt, and many times relatable. Check out the links to the album and first video release below:
